Feeding

With an advanced practice certification from the California Board of Occupational Therapy (CBOT) in Swallowing Assessment, Evaluation, or Intervention (SWC), Dee has expertise assessing and treating problem feeders, picky eaters, transitioning infants/toddlers to table foods, and oral motor difficulties.

Advanced practice courses includes Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Approach to Feeding and Beckman Oral Motor Assessment and Intervention.

Early Intervention

The role of parents and family involvement in early intervention (0-3 years) is important in the development of infants and toddlers. Dee utilizes a family-centered approach when working with children 0-3 to foster growth in natural environments and within family routines.

Children

Dee has experience working with a variety of diagnoses, which include, but are not limited to: autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, developmental delays, anxiety.

She often uses a family-centered approach, sensory integration, Zones of Regulation/ALERT program/Superflex for addressing emotional regulation, and child-directed play as a means to therapy to provide best care for clients in their natural environments and family routines.

Teens

Teens are often the age group that falls between the cracks regarding services. They are aging out of traditional outpatient occupational therapy/sensory clinic spaces, limited by insurance due to what is deemed “medically necessary,” and social skills groups or home health services are hard to find.

Enter, Backyard OT.

Dee has knowledge in social skills, executive functioning skills, emotional regulation, fine motor skills, and assisting with transitioning to help support your teens navigate through school, social circumstances, activities of daily living (ADLs), and more.

Handwriting

Dee is working on her certification for assessment and treatment using the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. This curriculum is great for building strong foundational skills for pre-writers, establishing the skillset for writing in print and cursive, and remediation of skills for school-aged children.

Expected certification is by the end of 2023 calendar year.
